Located on a pristine peninsula between the Ortega and St. Johns Rivers, Ortega is one of Northeast Florida’s most prestigious neighborhoods. A ribbon of Roosevelt Boulevard runs through Ortega, dividing the area into “Old Ortega” to the east and “Ortega Forest” to the west. The area is only minutes from downtown Jacksonville and approximately 30 minutes from the Jacksonville International Airport.
Ortega is a historic community with sprawling waterfront mansions, quaint public squares, and charming boutiques and eateries. Majestic oaks heavy with Spanish moss line quiet streets and the area offers spectacular views of the downtown skyline. The historic Ortega River Bridge is a local landmark, built in 1927 to replace the original 1908 wooden span that included a trolley line. Carter’s Pharmacy, founded in 1955, is just one of the businesses nestled in Ortega Village, the community’s commercial district. There are multiple parks within the area, including Bettes, Stockton, and Cortez Parks.
Surrounded by water, Ortega is a natural center of recreational boating. Hundreds of sailboats, powerboats, and yachts cruise the glistening waterways, returning after a day of boating or fishing to one of several marinas or to a private boathouse. There are two premier private clubs in the area – the Florida Yacht Club and Timuquana Country Club. The area has many fine schools including Ortega Elementary School, St. Mark’s Episcopal Day School, and John Stockton Elementary School. There are a variety of rentals available in the area, offering an eclectic mix of architectural styles.
